Chinese Garden Restaurant: Reviews & Ratings
Used to be Chi,s. I have to say, the way the new management cleaned up this place is amazing. But we are here for food reviews. Clean oil and fresh ingredients make a huge difference. And a cook that's aims to please. Our outstanding waitress went above and beyond with the new management in play. Food was spectacular. This coming from someone who doesn't like Chinese food. We ordered the vegetable low mein, not chow mein, please don't get it confused, egg drop soup, sweet and sour chicken, pork fried rice, BBQ pork, and pork pan fried noodles. (Low mein) Better than previous and im looking forward to the steak noodle soup.
Clean, friendly, and affordable, with generous portions and carefully prepared dishes. Best noodles in town. The was delicious, with just the right amount of flavor without being overpowering. I like my dish a little more tender, so I asked for extra sauce, which they provided. The portions were generous, with shrimp, chicken, and roast pork. I also ordered takeout for my family.
Formerly Chi’s. New owners, new name (sort of as Chi’s was an abbreviation) They’ve changed menus and table covers but much seems the same. The menu is similar with some h changes. Ambiance is still a bit like an old steakhouse with new tables. Food is up & down. Some very good, some good, some ok. We tried: •Wor wonton with noodles-good but wontons were doughy, and not much meat & veg. •House Fried Rice-very good. Good flavor, cooked nicely. Pork Chow Mein-good. But, in the Build Your Combo, there was not as much as expected. Honey Chicken-quite sweet. I’d ask for less sauce. Steamed Rice-pretty standard. Service is 5 stars. It brought the score from 3 to 4 stars. I would go back and try other things. I wish them great success.
After noticing the new ownership and name change, we decided to give Chinese Garden a try. Our server seemed new and wasn’t able to answer some questions, but she was eager to learn and checked with the kitchen. Another server later clarified things and thanked us for our patience. The food was excellent—hot and far more authentic and flavorful than most places in town, including Chi’s. Nothing felt watered down. If you visit, be proactive about asking for spice levels. Everyone’s idea of “spicy” is different, so order accordingly.
We never liked the old Chi's restaurant but the food and the friendly efficient service now is outstanding. I asked for sn off menu item of green beans and chicken with black bean sauce and it was excellent. The Singapore noodles was also very flavorful. My wife enjoyed the mushu vegetables and the hot and sour soup which was the best in town. The egg drop soup was also very good and not greasy with chicken fat as it often is elsewhere. All in all a great improvement and a welcome addition to our local choices. And the prices remain very competitive. Portions were also very large. The vegetable delight was, however, extremely bland. It was basically steamed vegetables with no spicing and a thin watery sauce. I cannot re commend that. The broth of the workers wonton soup also was low on flavor, as it seems to be at most Chinese restaurants. That was the only item we liked from the previous owners and both the broth and the wonton themselves are not as good as they used to be. But everything else is SO much better that it more than makes up for it.
The restaurant is clean. The food is hot and fresh tasting. The booths provided privacy. The tea was complimentary and tasted great. My friend and I both left satisfied. It is quality food and the price is really low. *Update* I have eaten there again and will continue to do so. The meals are large and the food tastes great. It's one of my favorite restaurants in Douglas County.
We always decide whether to go to a restaurant we've never been to based on the number of cars in the parking lot. China Garden's parking lot was packed, but when we walked in, it was bustling with people, and everyone sounded happy. We had a truly wonderful dining experience. My family loved their vegetable and chicken curry. The beef fried rice was my favorite; it was rich and fragrant. Better than any other Chinese restaurant in California.
